Great thermometer with one modification. March 17, 2011
: Steven Kozicki from Park Ridge, IL United States
The range, ease of use, battery life, etc, etc is all everybody says about this thermometer and more.  You can practically go to the next county and not loose a signal. The thing that kept me from giving this thermometer five stars is the food probe.  I had to get another one, (eventually replaced under warranty) because the food probe temperature started reading 50 degrees high. The problem is that there is a gap between the steel cable and the steel of the probe where moisture can enter and throw the reading off.  I took some high temperature silicone caulk. In my case, I got Permatex Red Form A Gasket, which is rated to 650 F, and applied a blob of it to seal where the probe and the cable meet.  (Available at any auto parts store). With that modification, the probe works as promised.  They do tell you not to submerge the probe when cleaning it, a direction I heeded, but condensation can collect on this cable during the smoking process and run right down the cable into that gap.
